Will we worship God humbly and give him gifts befitting the King of kings?
As we approach Christmas, our hearts turn to the birth of Jesus Christ. The story of the wise men who traveled from afar to worship the newborn king is a beautiful reminder of the importance of faith and devotion.
Humbling Ourselves in Worship
The wise men, despite their wealth and status, fell and worshipped Jesus. This act of humility teaches us that true worship is not about outward show, but about submitting our hearts to God. When we come before him in humility, we acknowledge his sovereignty and our dependence on him.
Reflecting on God's Character
The Psalmist writes, "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him" (Psalm 2:12). This verse reminds us that God is both powerful and merciful. He deserves our worship not only because of his majesty but also because of his love for us.
Offering Our Best Gifts
The wise men brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh - precious gifts that symbolized Jesus' kingship, priesthood, and humanity. Their gifts were a reflection of their faith and their desire to honor him.
What Gifts Can We Give?
What gifts can we offer to Jesus today? Our gifts don't have to be material. We can give him our time, our talents, and our love. We can offer him our obedience and our commitment to following his teachings.
Giving Ourselves
The greatest gift we can give to Jesus is ourselves. When we surrender our lives to him, we give him the ultimate honor. We acknowledge that he is the Lord of our lives, and we commit to living for him.
Challenge for Today
As we celebrate Christmas, let us ask ourselves:
Are we willing to humble ourselves in worship before God?
Are we reflecting on God's character and letting it shape our lives?
What gifts can we offer to Jesus that reflect our faith and love for him?
May this Christmas be a time of true worship and devotion, as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to be the light of the world. Help us to humble ourselves before you and worship you in spirit and truth. May our lives be a reflection of your love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
