Leadership and Values Devotional: The Power of God's Purpose

Today's passage from Exodus 9 takes us to the midst of the plagues, where God's power is on full display. The seventh plague, boils erupting on man and beast, brings Pharaoh and his people to their knees. Yet, Pharaoh's heart remains hardened. This raises important questions about leadership and the role of God's purpose in our lives.

Leaders who resist God's will face consequences. Pharaoh, despite witnessing the devastating effects of the plagues, chooses stubborn pride over humility. This resistance to God's purpose leads to suffering for himself and his people. Leaders, whether in church, community, or personal life, must remember that true power comes from aligning with God's will, not from clinging to control.

God's purpose, even in times of hardship, reveals His power and love. While the plagues may seem harsh, they serve a greater purpose. They are not simply punishment, but a demonstration of God's power and His desire to free His people. As Rashi points out, the plague on the first ripe ears signifies the potential for even greater devastation. Yet, God chooses patience, allowing Pharaoh the chance to repent and experience His grace. This highlights God's ultimate purpose: not destruction, but redemption.

We are all called to be vessels of God's purpose. Romans 9:22 reminds us that God, in His wisdom, uses even vessels of wrath to display His power and make His name known. This doesn't mean He condones evil, but that He can even turn hardship into an opportunity for growth and understanding. As leaders, we can learn from this by seeking God's purpose in our lives, even amidst challenges, and allowing His power to flow through us to bless others.

Reflection Questions:

  • How can I identify God's purpose in my life, especially during difficult times?

  • Am I open to God's correction and willing to adjust my course when needed?

  • How can I use my leadership to align with God's will and bring about positive change?

Remember, true leadership is not about wielding power, but about humbly submitting to God's purpose and allowing His love and grace to flow through us. Let us strive to be vessels of God's purpose, spreading His message of hope and redemption to the world.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to surrender my will to Yours and become a vessel of Your purpose. Grant me the wisdom and strength to discern Your plans and the courage to follow them, even when the path is difficult. May my leadership reflect Your love and grace, bringing blessings and transformation to those around me. Amen.
