GEN 26:9-10

English Lyrics

In lands of dust and faith,

Where kings and prophets tread,

A tale of woe and wrath,

Of sacred bonds misled.

​

Abimelech, a king so wise,

Saw Isaac's fear unfold,

A lie that could demise,

A truth he must uphold.

​

"Behold, she is your wife,"

The king did thus reveal,

"How could you risk her life,

And make such falsehoods real?"

​

Isaac thought his lie would shield,

But harm was close to spawn,

For in deceit, no one is healed,

And truth must carry on.
 

The king declared with solemn tone,

"What have you brought upon our home?

A guilt that could have seared our soul,

For purity was our prime goal."

​

For Abraham's kin was set apart,

To lead with virtue, pure of heart,

And Abimelech, with foresight clear,

Knew well the cost of sin so near.

​

Pharaoh too did cast his plea,

"Why bring this curse upon me?

Your sister, she? A lie so grave,

Take her now, and be on your way."

​

For Egypt's lust was known to all,

A land where vice did often crawl,

And Pharaoh sought to cleanse his reign,

From Abram's ruse that brought disdain.

​

So here we sing of ancient times,

Of patriarchs and their cryptic rhymes,

May wisdom from their stories gleaned,

Guide us where their light once beamed.
